10 autumn activities to share with your exchange student
As the days get crisper and the darker nights draw in, we can’t resist throwing ourselves into some deliciously cosy autumn fun! If you’re after some inspiration of how the brits enjoy this season, look no further…
1. Sunday roast
There’s nothing like a roast dinner when it’s chilly outside. Learn the art of the perfect roast from your host family, or sample one from a nice country pub (bonus points for a pub with an open fire!).
2. Crisp coastal walk
The UK has some amazingly beautiful coastlines and there’s nothing like enjoying the views on a crisp sunny day.
3. Halloween fun
Show off your artistic skills with some pumpkin carving or gruesome make-up, get dressed up in your beat Halloween outfit, or enjoy a scary film night together! You could join in with decorating the house or trick-or-treating with younger family members.

4. Pumpkin picking
Pick the perfect pumpkin for carving with a trip to the pumpkin patch with your host family – don’t forget your wellies!

5. Leafy woodland walks
Enjoy the beautiful autumn colours as the leaves turn orange and red, the satisfying sounds as they crunch underfoot (and the great photo opportunities…).
6. Great British Bake Off
A national favourite, this show is always on TV in the Autumn. Get inspired by the best (and worst) creations and put your skills into action with your host family!

7. Strictly Come Dancing
If baking isn’t your thing, how about dancing? Saturday nights are time for another family favourite – huddle up on the sofa with a tasty takeaway and maybe even bust out your own moves.

8. Bonfire night
Remember, remember the fifth of November! Our biggest festival in autumn is bonfire night – don’t miss it! Find a local fireworks display, wrap up warm, buy your toffee apple and candy floss and enjoy the show!

9. Hot chocolates in cute cafes
The colder weather brings the perfect excuse to shelter in a cosy café with a hot drink. Explore the local cafes in your area, invite a friend for a chat over coffee or settle in with a good book.
10. Conkers
Get traditional with a game of Conkers! Brits pick the fallen conkers, tie the hardest one on a string or shoelace and go head-to-head in battle to smash the opponent’s conker. Ask your host family to teach you this age-old game.
